Our main Web site is: 1. First, to REGISTER 2. Next, Agape-Biblia is a hypertext Russian Bible using the widely-accepted Russian Synodal Translation of the Bible as its base. Headings in bold type are usually taken from the Synodal translation, where they are found at the beginning of each chapter. If a person with a church upbringing reads and understands the standard Synodal translation, God bless him! May he continue reading it. We can recommend the Online Bible in Russian. The overwhelming majority of Russians prefer such an exact translation, not a paraphrase, but unfortunately they don't read it regularly because of difficulties understanding the archaic words and expressions. These people, whom the Lord Jesus loves, don't have the time or simply aren't able to learn the Synodal dialect. In the opinion of the one who compiled the present work, we must not demand that of them. In order to create a more readable text without destroying the literal translation and literary style preferred by many Russians, we first used search-and-replace to change about 125 archaic Russian words for modern Russian words, and then normalized the order of words in the sentences so that they follow normal Russian syntax, not Greek or Church Slavonic syntax.
Many other archaic words were found and changed individually in the normalization process. You will see, for example, that the expression "Господь Бог наш" is normalized to "Господь, наш Бог" because "Господь" is a name (Jehova/Yahweh), and "Бог" is what He is, as in Joshua 1:2 and 9: "Moses, My servant" and "the Lord, your God." Also, in the New Testament we sometimes use the term "Messiah" in place of "Christ", in the Gospel of Matthew because this Gospel was written to Jews who were awaiting their Messiah, in the Gospel of John because he indicated that precisely this is what he had in mind (see Jn. 1:41 and 4:25), and in the first 9 chapters of Acts, where the Apostles were speaking in the Hebrew language and in all probability used the word "Messiah." Mark and Luke wrote to Greek readers, therefore we left the word "Christ" in their Gospels. The editing was carried out by a native Russian speaker, and then the draft was given to other native Russian speakers with higher educations for checking. In the final stage, native Russian speakers with theological education, university professors and instructors of Russian language and literature edited the text of this work. You find this in version 1.0 of Agape-Biblia.
Our Russian hypertext Bible was designed in 1996 for Netscape 2.0, Internet Explorer 3.0 or higher, using "frames," and it ran both over the World-Wide-Web, and as a stand-alone application on any computer with Windows 95/98/ME/NT/2000/XP, if you had Internet Explorer 4.0 or higher installed, because it used the Help system in I.E. But in 2006 Microsoft crippled Internet Explorer and the Help system so that our compiled Help files would not interface with each other. You can still use Agape-Biblia on the WWW, "copy-and-paste" Bible passages from Agape-Biblia into your favorite Windows word processor, and install our "combo" module so that you can update your "Daily Prayers," "Scripture Memory System," "Journal" and "Zametki / Notes" on every chapter of the Bible.
Starting with version 5.0, Agape-Biblia uses a CSS "slider" (mini-hamburger) menu that slides out when you click on the three-bar button in the upper-left corner of the screen. Version 5.0 also uses HTML5 "objects" instead of frames. If you change the window size or change from horizontal (landscape) to vertical (portrait) mode, the objects will automatically resize to fit the window.
Agape-Biblia includes Bible study appendices with "hot-links" to Bible references. To use the appendices, click on the word "Приложения" in the menu. In the menu you will also find a link to your own user-directory "Мои Заметки" with a daily prayer guide, scripture memory system, and a prototype hypertext file so that you, the user, can develop and distribute your own electronic Bible studies in Russian. The Agape-Biblia site (www.agape-biblia.org) now also links to other sites that are related to Agape-Biblia, contain links to Scripture references and let the user return to Agape-Biblia. These are: Agape Restoration Society, selected commentaries of St. John Chrysostom, Discover Original Christianity, and Hosken-News.
