Cheryl and I live on our Social Security and small private annuities (we're not, however, like some "retirees" who spend all day in their rocking chairs - we're up and off our rockers!), so we receive no personal financial support through Agape Restoration Society. But it costs money to run four websites and send out thousands of emails every month. Many of the people on our e-mailing list live and minister in developing countries - this is the main reason why we send our emails, distribute Agape-Biblia and give access to our websites for free: they don't have the means to pay a subscription fee or don't have a method to donate online. But if You Do have the means and the method, please consider making a $5 or $10 monthly donation to support our ministry!

This year marks the 23rd year since we created the www.Agape-Biblia.org website (then called "Hyper-Biblia"), the first Russian Bible for Windows operating system on the Internet. Ever since then and even today, if you google the words "hypertext Russian Bible" you'd find "Hyper-Biblia" or "Agape-Biblia" on the first page of the search results! Starting with just the New Testament in updated modern Russian, we've added the Russian Old Testament, then the Hebrew Old Testament with the Greek New Testament, also Bibles in English, Spanish, French, German, and Ukrainian - all linked together so you can write notes on any chapter right in your Chrome browser and compare chapters on any two of these languages. You can have your Daily Prayers, Daily Bible Readings, Daily Journal, Scripture Memory System, and more in each of these modern languages.

Over the years we've added websites for "www.Agape-Restoration-Society.org" that includes our six "Social Ministry of the Church" online courses and our "ARC - Agape Restoration Communities"; our "www.Hosken-News.info" e-newsletter; and our "www.Discover-Original-Christianity.info" aggregator. We now display over 20,000 web-pages and images on our websites: every month we get tens of thousands of visits.

This Christmas season I'd like to encourage all our readers to provide the financial support necessary to keep this ministry going strong. Our "Build the ARC" – Agape Restoration Community – project: Christian co-op housing including a chapel/community room – is still in the works. It is wheelchair-accessible by ramps from a gazebo in front to the 1st & 2nd floors. We’ve hired an architect and have put money down for land to build on. For year-end gifts, PayPal will not charge us their usual 2.2% fee, plus they will even add an extra 1% if you use this link: click https://paypal.com/us/fundraiser/charity/3286697 to make a special year-end donation. Thanks in advance!

Here's How to Reach the World

Here's How to Reach the World

At age 15 in 1958, while taking care of lawns at an apartment complex, the Lord gave me a vision: I saw a map of the Soviet Union in the sky and a voice said: "Remember this apartment complex plan - you'll build it when you're an old man." After serving 17 years in Russia, I'm now in my 70s, so I guess I'm old enough to start this new project!

In my previous message, I wrote about our *free* 1-year, 6-course training program "Social Ministry of the Church" that's in English and Russian to train people how to care for the disabled. The purpose of these courses is to prepare people for "Building the ARC" - an Agape Restoration Community Christian housing co-op with a built-in community room / chapel. Most of the units will be wheelchair-accessible because of the aging of the "Baby Boomer" generation: 70 million people born between 1946 and 1965 have reached or are reaching retirement age (10,000/day = 3,650,000/year!), at which time 45% of these people are already disabled.

And as they continue aging, 70% of them will be disabled and require accessible housing or nursing home care before they pass on. This is a huge social concern: 70% of 3,650,000 people = 2,550,000 disabled people per year for the next 20 years = over 50 million people! And Social Security + Medicare that are going bankrupt won't be able to care for all these people. Our basic problem, however, is that like most people, we don't want to think about such things. . . until it's too late. Then, when we're old and too feeble to pack up and move, our family may well be too far away or just to busy with their own jobs and family issues.

Christ commanded His disciples to "Bring in the poor, the maimed, the lame and the blind, go into the highways and the hedges, and compel them to come in, so that My house may be full" (Luke 14:21-23). This defines our ultimate target audience and our goal, but how can we "compel them to come in" unless they can come in? Why aren't the churches full? In many cases the "maimed, the lame and blind" can hardly get out of their homes, and getting transported to church is difficult or flat-out impossible.

Also, many church buildings aren't very wheelchair-accessible. Solution: "Build the ARC": 6-to-8-unit buildings that form an accessible, affordable Christian housing co-op including a community room/chapel, most living units wheelchair-accessible, plus parking spaces just outside wide enough for wheelchair use right next to the buildings. And our "Social Ministry of the Church" courses will train the healthier residents as "home healthcare workers" to care for those who need it.

This isn't just one heart-touching story of one child with a disability -- it's Over 50 Million People, a huge percentage of our whole country! Perhaps you have a child or other family member who needs accessible housing, or you're an "empty-nester" in your 50s or 60s and you'd like to travel more, maybe do some short-term mission work, but who will take care of your house? Get one of our co-op units! (Hint: it's a lot easier to move when you're healthy than when you're crippled with arthritis, or your back or knees have worn out, or you've had a stroke, etc.) Consider NOW getting a home in our Christian community!

Disability is a reality. Most homes, condo and townhouse communities in our greater Pittsburgh area have at least 1/2 to 1 flight of stairs, often 2 or 3 flights, creating a nearly-insurmountable problem for people with disabilities. Elevators are not a reliable solution, because when they're out of service or in case of a fire, disabled people on the upper floors are stuck. Our 20+ years of working with the disabled has taught us this lesson the hard way, carrying disabled people up or down flights of stairs when elevators break down or the electricity fails. Armed with such experiences, we aim to change the built environment for these people!

We've been functioning since 1998 as Agape Restoration Society, a donor-advised fund of WaterStone.org, a foundation through which people can channel their benevolent donations but only to other non-profits. In 2017, we incorporated as Agape Restoration Society Inc., an IRS-recognized non-profit corporation, so that we can disburse funds to for-profit architects and builders. We are listed with Charity Navigator and GuideStar. We've hired an architectural firm in Pittsburgh and have located a property to build on so that our architects can create drawings specifically for that property. Here are our sketches and the proposed property:

In August 2019, our Offer to Purchase was accepted for a beautiful 8.8-acre hilltop property in Trafford, PA, and due to zoning requirements we've modified our earlier design: see our site plan 1 and 2, five new sketches for a 6-8-living-unit building including four living units on the first floor, a community room/chapel, restrooms, and two living units on the second floor, and balconies and offices or living units on the third floor, plus five side buildings each with 6-8 living units, altogether totaling 36-48 living units, 26-36 being wheelchair-accessible.

Where is Trafford, PA? Drive east on I-376 from downtown Pittsburgh about 25-30 minutes to Hwy. 48 in Monroeville where UPMC East Hospital is located, and Forbes Hospital is 4 minutes south on Hwy. 48. Go south on Hwy. 48 from I-376 and turn east on Hwy. 130 to Trafford (total 12 minutes) in the lower-right corner. Next, see 1) a Trafford overview - turn left at the Burger King onto Forbes Road for the quickest route to the property, then 2) zoom in to see the property (the lower-right rectangle), the triangle-shaped hilltop, 3) the present "Urban Lane" road-cut, 4) and the existing townhouse development in an older Google Streetview - the first 3 vehicles are where the road-cut has more recently been made.

Please check out our detailed info about "having a home in the ARC." You can see a preview HERE.

Also, here's how to share this project with others: help us find more people who may need accessible housing and people who can help fund this project!

Yours sincerely,

"Dr. Bob"

Various news outlets reported our first news article SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION'S PROPOSED DISABILITY BENEFITS POLICY CHANGE WILL AFFECT THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS - most of them blaming the current political administration for this proposed new rule instead of the Social Security Administration. Leftist "rights activists" took issue with the proposed rule, saying it will deprive disabled people of their rightful benefits. The fact is that the SSA and Medicare currently eat up over half of the federal budget and are growing, scheduled soon to consume the entire federal budget. Something must be done to rein in these runaway expeditures.

My experience and research have turned up dozens of cases of "disability mills" - lawyers and doctors who specialize in getting people qualified for disability benefits in exchange for a percentage of their retroactive benefits. At times when factories close because the jobs are "outsourced" overseas, the former workers who can't or don't want to find another job will often go to one of these "disability mills" to basically take an early retirement. At other times, people feign or overstate an injury so they can receive disability benefits. It's well-documented: just google "faking disability to get benefits." This is all the result of the original idea of Christian philanthropy that has morphed into a faceless, socialized bureaucracy. We need to return to the form of Christian charity that takes the time to get to know people with disabilities personally and work with them toward healing and restoration as much as possible.

In our second news article LUHANSK, DONBAS: GOSPEL OF JOHN, BAPTIST BOOKS BANNED, the ignorant stupidity of the Russia-backed invading forces is abundantly evident - banning the Gospel of John as if it were a piece of sectarian literature smuggled into "Soviet territory" by western intelligence agents! The Russia-backed forces have no idea whatsoever that the Gospel of John in the Russian Synodal Translation which they confiscated is part of the Russian Synodal Bible approved by the Russian Orthodox Church! The abysmally ignorant atheist mentality of the former Soviet Union still controls the minds of Russia's military and political leaders.

"PLAST" BRINGS PEACE LIGHT OF BETHLEHEM TO COMBAT ZONE - our third news article - reminds us that even in the midst of the trench warfare taking place in eastern Ukraine, the Good News of Christ's birth promises an end to all enmity and strife. Swords will be remade into plowshares and swords into pruning hooks: we believe this because He is the Truth that sets us free, it isn't true merely because we believe it.

We thank the Lord for OVER 100 'PROGRAM' CHURCHES BUILT IN MOSCOW OVER 9 YEARS, as our fourth news article explains. When we were living in Moscow for over ten years, it was always heartwarming to see new churces being built. Let's pray that the people of Moscow will fill all these new churches and that many more will be built and filled with people seeking and finding the Lord!

It is heartbreaking to read our fifth news article RUSSIAN CHURCH CUTS TIES WITH ALEXANDRIA PATRIARCHATE OVER UKRAINE CHURCH RECOGNITION. It is shameful when the Church lets itself be used as an instrument of the state's military adventures, and I know personally many Russians, both Orthodox and Evangelical, who see this schism, this disunity in the worldwide Orthodox Church in the same light. If they're living in Russia they can just hint at it, but if they live outside Russia they can and do express it openly.

RUSSIA: CAN HOMES NOW BE FREELY USED FOR WORSHIP MEETINGS? - our sixth news article - describes the dilemma of many Russian Protestants, especially those outside of major cities where many foreigners live who can witness what is going on: there are great legal and bureaucratic barriers to obtain a place to worship, thus many believers gather in private houses and apartments for worship. With this latest Russian Constitutional Court ruling, some believers might be able to legally worship in homes. But the vagueness of the ruling leaves it open to interpretation by local authorities who might then disallow believers to use their homes for worship. This has a chilling effect on freedom of religious expression. Similar vague zoning regulations here in the U.S. have held up our Agape Restoration Community building project for the past eight months.

NOW, THE NEWS:

SOCIAL SECURITY ADMINISTRATION'S PROPOSED DISABILITY BENEFITS POLICY CHANGE WILL AFFECT THOUSANDS OF AMERICANS
from: Forbes

Social Security (17 Dec.) The Social Security Administration is working on a proposal that could strip disability benefits from hundreds of thousands of Americans. Applying for Social Security benefits is already a convoluted and rigorous procedure, and the new proposed rule change will add to the difficulty, making the application procedure unattainable for many of those who need the benefits.

The proposal was first published in the Federal Register last month but received scarce media attention. Activists are currently working on raising public awareness of the Social Security Administration's proposed change. Last week, the SSA announced an extension on the public comment period by 15 days until January 31, 2020. If passed, the new regulation would add another category to the qualification list and increase the frequency of continuing disability reviews (CDR), which monitors the recipient’s eligibility required for benefit continuation.

The published document states, "the proposed rules would add a category to the existing medical diary categories that we use to schedule CDRs and revise the criteria for assigning each of the medical diary categories to cases. The proposed rules would also change the frequency with which we perform a CDR for claims with the medical diary category for permanent impairments. The revised changes would ensure that we continue to maintain appropriate stewardship of the disability program and identify medical improvement (MI) at its earliest point."

Currently, there are three categories that the SSA uses to determine an applicant's eligibility for receiving benefits: "medical improvement not expected," "medical improvement expected" and "medical improvement possible." The fourth category currently being proposed is "medical improvement likely." [read more ~~]

LUHANSK, DONBAS: GOSPEL OF JOHN, BAPTIST BOOKS BANNED
by Felix Corley: Forum 18 News Service

Forum 18 News Service (20 Dec.) The unrecognised Luhansk People's Republic banned 12 Baptist books as "extremist," including an edition of the Gospel of John in the widely-used Russian Synodal translation. Officials refused to say why the books are "extremist" and what will happen to those found with them. The ban came a week after the Supreme Court overturned a court order to destroy seized Baptist books.

The authorities of the unrecognised Luhansk People's Republic in eastern Ukraine have banned 12 Baptist books – including the Gospel of John – as "extremist." The 26 November ban came a week after Luhansk's Supreme Court overturned part of a lower court decision that Christian books seized from a Baptist pastor should be destroyed. The Supreme Court left unchanged the pastor's fine of more than a month's average local wage.

As well as the Gospel of John, the banned "extremist" books also contain the main hymnbook used by the Council of Churches Baptists, "Songs of Revival," as well as their regular magazine and children's books. It remains unclear what will happen in Churches which, for example, might read out the first verses of the Gospel of John from the Synodal Russian translation during Christmas services.

The 26 November government decision banning the 12 Baptist books became known on 10 December, when the Justice Ministry's State List of Extremist Materials was published on its website. The decision itself has not been published, with one government official describing it as a "secret document for official use and for limited distribution." It remains unclear therefore why such books are regarded as "extremist" and who made this decision. [read more ~~]

"PLAST" BRINGS PEACE LIGHT OF BETHLEHEM TO COMBAT ZONE
from: Religious Information Service of Ukraine

light of Bethlehem (22 Dec.) Representatives of the national scout organization of Ukraine "Plast" brought the Peace Light of Bethlehem to the zone of the joint forces operation. This is reported by UKRINFORM that cites the press service of the JFO.

"The Peace Light of Bethlehem was transferred to the military units that perform tasks to protect the sovereignty and territorial integrity on the territory of Donetsk and Luhansk regions," the report said. Everyone was able to light a lamp or candle and bring fire to their home.

"For the sixth year in a row, the Plast members have brought the Peace Light of Bethlehem to the forefront of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in combat areas and to the front-line cities of Donetsk and Luhansk region. Thus, we want our defenders performing combat missions on the contact line to feel the coming celebration of the Nativity of Christ. The warmth of this fire should warm the hearts and souls of our soldiers in the trenches. We hope that soon the war will end with our victory and we will live in peace," say the organizers of the event.

The Peace Light of Bethlehem is a symbolic fire that the scouts receive at the birthplace of Jesus Christ in Bethlehem and spread around the world. The main idea of the action is the unity of people. Fire overcomes many boundaries and gets to all who are waiting for the light of warmth, peace, and harmony. [read more ~~]

OVER 100 'PROGRAM' CHURCHES BUILT IN MOSCOW OVER 9 YEARS
from: Interfax-Religion

Interfax Religion (27 Dec.) Ninety-two big churches and 18 small churches were built in the nine years of the program to build Orthodox churches in Moscow, the press service for Vladimir Resin, the curator of the program and a State Duma deputy, said. "This list comprises 92 big (main) and 18 small churches. That is, we have de facto come close to the number 110 churches," Resin said.

The program envisages the construction of new churches in a ratio of one church to 20,000 people, he said. Seven churches were commissioned in 2019 and another 12 are expecting to be commissioned. Twenty-nine churches are being actively built and 19 churches are preparing for construction. Another 47 objects are being designed and pre-design work is being done on 22 objects.

According to earlier reports, the leader in the number of churches whose foundation was laid down under the "Program 200" is the Moscow Southwestern Administrative District. "Program 200," which envisages the construction and reconstruction of 200 Orthodox churches in all administrative districts of Moscow, except for the Central Administrative District, started in 2010 and is being financed with charity donations.

The charity fund to support the construction of churches in Moscow has been created to accumulate donations. According to earlier reports, the 100th object is expected to be commissioned under the program before the end of this year. [read more ~~]

RUSSIAN CHURCH CUTS TIES WITH ALEXANDRIA PATRIARCHATE OVER UKRAINE CHURCH RECOGNITION
from: Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty

Metr. Epifaniy (27 Dec.) The Russian Orthodox Church has cut ties with the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Alexandria and all of Africa Patriarch Theodore II after he recognized the independence of Ukraine's church from Moscow.

Russia's Holy Synod also decided on December 27 to abolish the Exarchate of the Patriarchate of Alexandria in Moscow and convert it into a Russian church. The Russian church's decision follows Theodore's recognition of the Ukrainian church during a service he held in Egypt in November.

The Patriarchate of Constantinople - generally considered the spiritual headquarters for Orthodoxy - granted the Orthodox Church of Ukraine independence in January, ending more than 300 years of control by Moscow. The new Orthodox Church of Ukraine installed its first metropolitan, Epifaniy, at a ceremony in Kyiv on February 3 in a process that further established the new church body's independence.

However, the Ukrainian church has struggled to win recognition from other Orthodox churches, making Theodore's act significant. [read more ~~]

RUSSIA: CAN HOMES NOW BE FREELY USED FOR WORSHIP MEETINGS?
by Victoria Arnold: Forum 18 News Service

Forum 18 News Service (17 Dec.) A Constitutional Court ruling may reduce fines for using private homes for meetings for worship. This largely relies on officials, one Christian lawyer stating that when he and his colleagues attempt to resolve cases "some [inspectors] work with common sense, others do not."

A November 2019 Constitutional Court ruling will, lawyers hope, help to clarify Russia's confusing legal framework on meetings for worship outside officially-recognised religious buildings, and help both individuals and religious communities avoid fines. The Court stated that the provision of residential premises to religious organisations for worship and/or for use as a legal address "does not constitute a violation of the law and cannot serve as the basis for prosecuting citizens under Administrative Code Article 8.8 ('The use of a land plot not for its intended purpose in accordance with its belonging to a particular land category and/or authorised use')."

The case followed a fine imposed on Olga Glamozdinova, a Seventh-day Adventist in Rostov Region, for granting free use of a room in her house to her Church and allowing them to use it as its legal address, when the land is designated for personal part-time crop cultivation. This land use permits the construction of a dwelling, but not of a religious building.

Glamozdinova argued that the house is also occupied as a dwelling by an acquaintance who also tends the crops on the plot, and the congregation uses the room for only four hours per week. The fine was upheld on appeal at both district and regional courts, but the Constitutional Court has now ruled that Glamozdinova's fine is subject to review because the law had been incorrectly applied in her case. You Have a Right to be Wrong: That Doesn't Make Wrong Right.

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit! Glory to Jesus Christ! Glory forever!

right or wrongTruth and error, right and wrong, exist. Yes, there can be differences of opinion on some issues, but on other issues it's either right or wrong: "For there must be also heresies among you, that they which are approved may be made manifest among you" (1 Corinthians 11:19, KJV). The Greek word is "haeresis" in this verse, correctly translated as "heresies," even though some modern translations render it as "factions" (NKJV) or "differences" (NIV): the latter makes it seem like St. Paul may merely be writing about minor, insignificant differences of opinion.

But look closely at the context: in verse 17 he writes - "Now in giving these instructions, I do not praise you, since you come together not for the better but for the worse." The phrase "for the better but for the worse" indicates clearly a matter of good or bad, right or wrong, not just a matter of opinion. And what is the result? In verse 20, St. Paul writes - "Therefore when you come together in one place, it is not to eat the Lord's Supper." In other words, they had turned the Holy Communion of the Lord's real Body and Blood (ch. 10:15-16) into a farce. And the consequence was: "For he who eats and drinks unworthily eats and drinks damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord's body" (v. 29).

The root meaning of the Greek word "haeresis" is choice, that is, (specifically) a party or (abstractly) disunion, a sect (Strong's Hebrew and Greek Dictionaries). So the idea that the freedom of choice ought to be absolute and that there's no right or wrong is a logical absurdity that leads to a party spirit, division, and disunity. To say that "Everything is relative and that's the absolute truth!" is a logical contradiction. Why? Because it requires an absolute standard to state that there are no absolute standards, that everything is relative. Certainly, some things are relative and variable, but in order to assign a value to those variables, it requires a fixed, absolute value. We should have learned in basic algebra that to solve a problem with multiple variables, you need a known value. Finding that fixed value isn't easy but it is possible ~~ and necessary!

This underscores the need for an authoritative, correct interpretation and application of the "measuring rod" (canon) of Holy Scripture. What or who would that be? To believe that any cowherd or any milkmaid can rightly interpret Scripture is just plain nonsense: that's why today we have over 20,000 mutually contradictory denominations, factions, and sects that all claim to be true Christianity. St. Peter wrote - "knowing this first, that no prophecy of Scripture is of any private interpretation, for prophecy never came by the will [choice] of man, but holy men of God spoke as they were moved by the Holy Spirit" (2 Peter 1:20-21). There cannot be private interpretations: the word "for" introduces the answer to the question of interpretation: just as it took holy men of God to record God's Word as they were moved by the Holy Spirit, it also takes holy men of God - those recognized as holy or "saints" in Christian tradition - to rightly interpret Scripture. The consensus of these holy Church Fathers is called Holy Tradition. Otherwise, we end up with heresies and sects multiplying like rabbits.

"God does not destroy the human freedom to plunge into error," - wrote St. John Chrysostom. And St. Vincent of Lerins wrote - "The overruling justice of God permits schism temporarily in order to strengthen and vindicate faith." But some will say - "We have liberty in Christ! That means we're free to choose whatever we want to do, to live however we want to live." St. Paul deals with this in chapters 4 and 5 of his letter to the Galatians: "But now after you have known God, or rather are known by God, how is it that you turn again to the weak and beggarly elements, to which you desire again to be in bondage?" (ch. 4:9). This refers to an excessive emphasis on legalism, on bondage to the Law of Moses.

At the other extreme, we shouldn't use "liberty" as a rationalization for immorality, but rather as the reason to serve one another: "For you, brothers, have been called to liberty; only do not use liberty as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another" (ch. 5:13). And St. Paul writes in Romans 6:16 - "Do you not know that to whom you present yourselves slaves to obey, you are that one's slave whom you obey, whether of sin leading to death, or of obedience leading to righteousness?" Giving yourself over to "whatever feels good, do it!" isn't liberty, it's slavery to sin: true freedom is being free from the bondage to sin, it's the ability to freely choose what is right and good.

There will always be people who insist on doing their own thing: "I'll do it my way!" has become America's theme song, almost its national anthem. They will persist in activities that they know are harmful to themselves or to society - smoking, drinking, overeating, sexual immorality, abortion - because they have "the right to choose." For them, the saying applies - "There's no cure for stupid!" You can't correct a person who refuses correction and instruction, who insists on remaining ignorant. God is right and true when He judges, even when people insist on their right to be wrong. St. John wrote in Revelation 16:5-11 -

"I heard the angel of the waters saying, 'You are righteous, Who are and Who were, You Holy One, because You have judged these things. For they poured out the blood of the saints and the prophets, and You have given them blood to drink. They deserve this.' I heard the altar saying, 'Yes, Lord God, the Almighty, true and righteous are Your judgments.' The fourth angel poured out his bowl on the sun, and it was given to him to scorch men with fire. People were scorched with great heat, and people blasphemed the name of God who has the power over these plagues. They didn't repent and give Him glory. The fifth poured out his bowl on the throne of the beast, and his kingdom was darkened. They gnawed their tongues because of the pain, and they blasphemed the God of heaven because of their pains and their sores. They didn't repent of their works."

Many people today believe that Christianity is just a myth, so they can continue doing their own thing and there will never be any consequences, any judgment. St. Peter wrote that - "in the last days mockers will come, walking after their own lusts, and saying, 'Where is the promise of His coming? For, from the day that the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.' For this they willfully forget, that there were heavens from of old, and an earth formed out of water and amid water, by the Word of God; by which means the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. But the heavens that now are, and the earth, by the same Word have been stored up for fire, being reserved against the day of judgment and destruction of ungodly men" (2 Peter 3:3-7). As God once judged the world by sending a flood, so will He judge the world by fire the next time:

"The Lord is not slow concerning His promise, as some count slowness; but is patient with us, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in which the heavens will pass away with a great noise, and the elements will be dissolved with fervent heat, and the earth and the works that are in it will be burned up. Therefore since all these things are thus to be destroyed, what manner of persons ought you to be in holy living and godliness, looking for and earnestly desiring the coming of the day of God, by reason of which the heavens being on fire will be dissolved, and the elements will melt with fervent heat?" (2 Peter 3:9-12).

This may sound rather grim, but climate scientists have now come to the same conclusion: the world is heating up and we're having more and more wildfires all over the world. And what are people doing about it? Are they willing to change their lifestyle? Or are they saying - "We can keep on doing what we've been doing and life will keep on going on like it always has, nothing to worry about!" No! God is very patient with us humans, He doesn't wish for anyone to perish, but His patience is eventually and finally coming to an end. Then St. Peter warns his readers to be careful in trying to interpret St. Paul's writings "in which are some things hard to understand, which the ignorant and unsettled twist, as they also do to the other Scriptures, to their own destruction" (v. 16).

"But, according to His promise, we look for new heavens and a new earth, in which dwells righteousness. Therefore, beloved, seeing that you look for these things, be diligent to be found in peace, without blemish and blameless in His sight" (2 Peter 3:13-14). There's your happy ending!

In the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit! Christ is among us! He is and ever shall be!
