Scripture Memory Program

Meditating on the Holy Scriptures transforms our thinking and our spirit. But without knowing the Holy Scriptures it is very difficult to meditate on them. Why don't believers memorize the Bible? Because they don't have a good system to do it. Earlier that required copying passages out of the Bible by hand onto little cards. Now with the help of a computer, however, you can very easily memorize Bible passages by heart. Our system consists of three lists:

List 1: Addition of new passages (Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday),
List 2: Review of memorized passages (Thursday, Friday, Saturday),
List 3: Archive of already memorized passages.

Sunday: On the first day of every week, after worshipping God with His children at church, choose a new passage for memorization – maybe from the sermon, or from your Bible reading, or let's say you want to memorize the Sermon on the Mount (Mt. chapters 5-7) by heart. Using NotePad or another simple text editor, copy the reference of your new passage from the file "putissyl.htm" and paste it to the end of List 1 below, and then move the first passage from List 1 to your archive, List 3, in biblical order (the order that books, chapters and verses appear in the Bible).

Then, also on Sunday, take those verses from List 2 (Review) and move them to List 3 (Archive) in biblical order. Lastly take the next 15 passages from List 3 (Archive) and move them to List 2 for reviewing during the coming week.

[Of course, when you begin to use this system, Lists 2 and 3 will be empty: you can repeat the verses in List 1 on Thursday, Friday and Saturday until you have saved 15 passages in the Archive (List 3). It won't be long before you have over 100 passages in your archive - and in your spirit!]

Every day, when you meditate on a given passage in the Bible, repeat to yourself its location in the Bible before and after your meditation. That way, you can find the passage in your Bible even if you forget the exact words.
